Hackers pwned

Police have arrested and charged 5 supposedly leaders of the hackivist group LulzSec. But the twist in the story is that the arrests were made based on evidence gathered by LulzSec leader-turned-informant.

Apparently, one of its head hackers (a 28 year old who goes by the moniker “Sabu”) was arrested in June and became a cooperating witness in exchange for leniency.

The 5 arrests were made in Britain, Ireland and the US on Tuesday night.

While hacktivists have their reasons, their methods are definitely morally grey and plainly illegal. But if they hadn’t been so cocky as to take down government websites, maybe they wouldn’t have been prime targets for law enforcement.

The moral: keep your arrogance in check.
