Diamond Jubilee

Today, Queen Elizabeth II marked the 60th anniversary of her ascension to the British throne.

Such an occasion is rare indeed; Queen Victoria in 1897 is the only other British monarch to have celebrated a Diamond Jubilee and the only one to have reigned longer.

In her Diamond Jubilee message, the Queen wrote:

“I hope also that this Jubilee year will be a time to give thanks for the great advances that have been made since 1952 and to look forward to the future with clear head and warm heart as we join together in our celebrations.”
