Into the Abyss
Hollywood film director James Cameron became the first person to reach the bottom of the Marianna Trench – Earth’s deepest point at 11km below sea level.
Cameron’s torpedo-shaped sub, named Deepsea Challenger, took over 2 ½ hours to reach the depth, where its 3D cameras filmed the alien realm.
Apparently, the footage is absolutely breathtaking. The expedition’s chief scientist says, “It’s unlike anything that you’ll have seen from other subs or other remotely operated vehicles.”
And in typical Cameron fashion, this shoot has a dramatic twist: 3 hours into the dive, the sub’s hydraulic fluids began leaking – prompting Cameron to resurface.
We can’t wait for the DVD to be released.
