Vetoed to death

The death toll continues to rise as the Syrian army begins another round of bombardment of the city of Homs in its efforts to stop the uprising against the government.

This comes just days after a UN Security Council resolution calling Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down was vetoed by Russia and China.

Since the Syrian uprising began in March 2011, so many people have been killed that the UN stopped estimating the death toll after it surpassed 5,400. Human rights groups believe the toll is now over 7,000.

Sadly, while the UN’s resolve remains unresolved, more innocent women, children and men will lose their lives in their struggle for a better tomorrow.
